We are frequently asked about certain personal items and whether we can obtain them. These items that we don't carry are typically things we choose not to sell for several reasons, but most importantly, because they are often prohibited.
Personal Comfort Items That Are Prohibited
Packing smart doesn’t just mean remembering your passport and fitting everything into your carry-on. Airlines and the TSA enforce strict rules about what personal items are allowed on board. While many restrictions are common sense, others might surprise you—especially newer bans on comfort gadgets and battery-powered items. Here’s what you need to know before your next flight.
Safety First: Why Items Are Prohibited
Personal items are not allowed if they:
- Block aisles, footwells, or create trip hazards
- Attach to the aircraft (such as seats, tray tables, or windows)
- Extend into another passenger’s seating space
- Contain non-compliant or oversized lithium-ion batteries
- Obstruct access to safety equipment (like oxygen masks or fire extinguishers)
- Pose any safety risk as determined by the airline
TSA Prohibited Items
These restrictions apply across airports nationwide. We should all know these by now, but still 100's of people a day bring these with them to the airport. Repaet After Me....
- Weapons and Sharp Objects – Guns, knives, box cutters, and even large scissors.
- Self-Defense Tools – Pepper spray, mace, and stun guns.
- Hazardous Materials – Fireworks, flares, fuel canisters, strike-anywhere matches, and toxic chemicals like bleach or solvents.
- Oversized Liquids – Anything over 3.4 oz. (100 ml) in carry-ons.
- Other Baned items – Hoverboards, lithium-ion scooters, and most sporting goods like bats or golf clubs, Single large or a large amount of lithium ion batteries
Airline-Specific Prohibited Personal Items
Most major U.S. airlines—including Delta, United, and American—have added their own bans to prevent cabin disruptions. These include:
-
Inflatable Devices – Seat wedges, cubes, or beds designed to create extra legroom.
- Knee Defenders & Recline Blockers – Devices that prevent the passenger in front of you from reclining.
- Foot Hammocks & Slings – Can block access and create tripping hazards.
- Window and Tray Table Organizers – Attachments that interfere with safety equipment or seat function.
- Pods & Tents – Miniature enclosures for children or adults.
- Full-Head Helmets – Obstruct visibility and access in emergencies.
