We Spent Two Years Tracking Down Your Team's Luggage Tag. Now We Have (Almost) All 30.

If you've ever tried to buy a luggage tag for your favorite baseball team — and that team isn't the one playing 20 miles from your house — you already know the problem. Why is this so hard to find in the first place?

A few reasons, as best we can tell from the outside:

1. Licensing. Only authorized manufacturers can put real MLB branding on a product, which narrows the field of who can even make one.

2. It's a narrow ask. You need someone who wants a luggage tag and cares about that specific team — that's a smaller crowd than "baseball fans" in general.

3. Shelf space goes to the big stuff. Hats, jerseys, and shirts crowd out travel accessories most places.

4. Thirty teams is a lot of inventory. Carrying a full set ties up real money and real shelf space — most stores don't bother.

5. Local shops stock local teams. Shop outside your team's home market and the odds drop fast.

6. Style matters too. A cheap, colorful tag and a premium leather one are basically different products — not every store carries both.

7. Item Shipping Issues. Some stores ship items from outside partners, even on the big team sites, which can mean waiting and waiting and waiting instead of quick shipping from a place that has it in stock or walking out with it if you shop in our store.

8. They hide in search. Listings get buried under "travel accessories," "bag tags," or lumped in with keychains.

9. Seasonal demand cleans them out. Playoffs and the holidays can empty a small stock of one team fast. Some retailers also consider this a summer item. We all know travel happens 24/7/365.

10. Shipping can ruin a small purchase. A $12–15 tag stops feeling like a deal once shipping doubles it.

One thing to watch for

While you're searching now, watch out for unlicensed knockoffs and homemade tags — you'll find them online too, sometimes priced higher than the real thing, which is backwards. An officially licensed tag carries the MLB hologram or licensing mark; a knockoff won't, no matter how close the logo looks or how much it costs. If a "team tag" seems to have appeared out of nowhere at a premium price, that's the flag to check for licensing before you buy — not just to trust the price tag.
