The Dad Travel Survival Kit: Essentials for the King of the Road (or Airport)

The Dad Travel Survival Kit: Essentials for the King of the Road (or Airport)

Burton Robertson |

Father’s Day is here, and if your dad’s idea of celebrating involves hitting the road, taking to the skies, or "accidentally" getting lost in a Bass Pro Shop, this one's for him. Dads might claim they don’t need much for a trip—“just a wallet and a firm handshake!”—but we all know that’s code for I'm going to forget half my stuff and MacGyver the rest. So, let’s help Dad out this Father’s Day with a checklist of humorous-yet-handy travel must-haves for the modern traveling father.

1. The “I Swear I Know Where I’m Going” Travel Bag

Dads love to project confidence—even when they have no clue where they are.  This year, get him a reliable, rugged travel bag. Preferably one with hidden compartments, because we all know he’ll insist on storing socks, trail mix, a wrench, flashlight, and that weird travel umbrella he refuses to throw away. Bonus points if it looks “manly” and has room for at least three pairs of cargo shorts.
Our favorite is the Briggs & Riley Traveler Backpack. It has two RFID-protected Pockets, room for electronics, and a hidden area to keep whatever he might need, including an extra shirt in case he spills while eating lunch.

2. The Ultimate Dad Wallet (a.k.a. The Brick)

Most dads carry a wallet the size of a brick—filled with expired coupons, every punch card since 2004, and a photo of you from 5th grade that makes you look like a confused turnip. For Father’s Day, consider upgrading him to an RFID-blocking slim wallet. He’ll resist at first, but once he realizes it fits in his pocket and blocks identity theft, he’ll show it to every TSA agent like it’s a new grandchild.  We have a great selection of Men's Wallets, you will surely find something he will love.

3. Socks. So Many Socks.

Dads pack socks like they’re going to lose one per hour. Hiking trip? Ten socks. Beach vacation? Still ten socks. Three-day business trip? Ten socks—and two for good luck. Get him some travel-ready compression socks and save everyone from the sock apocalypse of Gate C12.  They will keep him healthy and his feet happy.  We love Sockwell Socks and stock them every day.

4. Noise-Canceling Headphones (a.k.a. “Do Not Disturb, I’m Watching WWII Documentaries”)

Every dad has a personal playlist of sounds: ‘60s rock, lawn mower reviews, or World War II naval history. A solid pair of noise-canceling headphones ensures he can tune out the crying baby, the couple arguing in 14B, and the gate agent mispronouncing Reykjavik for the seventh time. Our Hyper Gear 2-in-1 Flip headphonesare perfect, and they Double as Speakers so he can share his Oldies and drive the kids Crazy!

5. Portable Phone Charger (So He Can Keep Texting You “Did You Let the Dog Out?”)

Dads are experts at worrying remotely. Equip him with a portable charger so he can maintain full battery life while sending you weather updates, blurry selfies, and passive-aggressive “Hope you're remembering to water my lawn” messages from 2,000 miles away.
We have a great selection of charger banks for his flip phone, camera, flashlight, hearing aids and everything else he might need to charge and more.

6. We also have things for Normal Dads. We hear they are out there, so if you need something for a regular dad, of course, we have Shaving Kits, Duffle Bags, Luggage, and many other travel accessories. Stop in at the store and shop soon. Father's Day is Coming Fast. Much of it is on Sale and up to 40% off including some of the worlds best luggge!

Final Thought:

This Father’s Day, help your dad travel like the legend he believes he is. Whether he’s the kind who triple-checks flight times or insists on driving "the scenic route" (which somehow adds four hours), he deserves a few upgrades. After all, every trip with Dad is part vacation, part adventure, and 100% unforgettable.

Just don’t forget the socks and clean tighty-whities. He certainly won’t.
